AUTOMATIC OPENER
It's important to first note that these types of knives
are restricted and Federally regulated. Be certain of
permissibility in your location including state or local
governments and within your reporting bodies. These
are folding knives which open at the
push of a button An especially important feature
to have if your disability, occupation or profession
has the potential of limiting your mobility or freedom
to access a knife through traditional means.
The blade is deployed out from the handle side like
traditional folding knives, but the blade is spring
open assisted to a fully locked position. Benchmade
is recognized for making some of the finest
auto opening knives in the world. These
are primarily manufactured for Law Enforcement, Military
and Government Agency distribution. The Benchmade
autos take full advantage of a powerful coil spring
blade actuator coupled with our precisely machined taper
lock mechanism, proving itself to be the most reliable
system available in auto open knives.
And our patented integrated safety mechanism (located
on handle spine) ensures that the blade will not inadvertently
deploy or close once it is locked open. Benchmade
autos are precision engineered and manufactured to perform
in the real world, you would be hard pressed to find
a superior tool.
Note the Benchmade exclusive safety
mechanism on the handle spine near the opener button.
To operate, if knife is on safety, place thumb on safety
button and slide safety button back. Then grip knife
firmly while still keeping clear a blade path
of fingers for the blade to deploy through. Then, push
opener button blade rapidly deploys automatically to
fully locked position. If desired, slide safety button
forward for secure use of knife in
preventing inadvertent push/release of the opener button,
causing blade closure (blade closure is done by pushing
the opener/release button and manually folding the blade
into the handle until locked into place).
Remember first and foremost is that knife safety
is YOUR responsibility. It is your moral and legal obligation
to ensure the safety of yourself and others around you
when handling a knife. Basic latch
pop/handle rotation technique (shown left handed): Grip
the knife in hand and pop the latch
with your little finger. Rotate handle onehalf turn
to position latched handle down while maintaing grip
on "safe" or latchless handle; drop or swing
latched handle (note cutting edge is pointing away from
fingers) down/outward letting it continue around to
be caught in the open hand. Rotate handle to position
the knife ready for use.
